My rating:

Goodreads synopsis: “Lengard is a secret government facility for extraordinary people,” they told me.

I believed them. That was my mistake.

There isn’t anyone else in the world like me.

I’m different. I’m an anomaly. I’m a monster.

For two years, six months, fourteen days, eleven hours and sixteen minutes, Subject Six-Eight-Four — ‘Jane Doe’ — has been locked away and experimented on, without uttering a single word.

As Jane’s resolve begins to crack under the influence of her new — and unexpectedly kind — evaluator, she uncovers the truth about Lengard’s mysterious ‘program’, discovering that her own secret is at the heart of a sinister plot … and one wrong move, one wrong word, could change the world.

My thoughts: This was a fun, fast-paced book! I was hooked from the first chapter!

I have recently been on a sci-fi kick ever since finishing Ready Player One, so this story satisfied every nerdy, sci-fi craving I have been having! It had a secret government agency, a mysterious medication with unintended effects, and a creepy laboratory and mad scientist type baddie. All which sound like normal, ordinary sci-fi tropes but I felt they were used in a very refreshing way.

I believe this is the author’s debute novel and I have to say I am highly impressed! The writing was captivating, the characters mysterious and all had their secrets, and the plot (even though was based on the usual sci-fi tropes) was fast-paced and unique! All-in-all not a bad way to break out into the world of YA fiction!

I have to say the driving force that kept me turning the pages was the main character of “Jane”. She was complex, mysterious, and had a unique power; all of which I was desperate to learn more about!

When I first began reading, I was under the impression that this was a stand alone novel but was pleasantly surprised to learn at the end that this is the first in the series. The story line is captivating enough and left many cliff hanger type questions that I am anxious to return to the world of Whisper and find out more about Jane and friends.

This is a great read for all you sci-fi nerds out there like myself and especially if you been binge reading all the sci-fi novels recently like I have! I highly recommend you check this new book out!
