Summertime is just around the corner but the warm weather has just arrived! Here is a list of some of the best books to read when your on the beach, by the pool, or simply just on your porch enjoying a beautiful, sunny day!
Who doesn’t love a fun, “who-dunnit”, mystery novel?? A Study in Charlotte is the perfect summertime novel to feed your mystery cravings! The two main characters, Jamie Watson and Charlotte Holmes, are the great-great-great-great grandchildren of the late Sherlock Holmes and his counter part Dr. Watson and it seems sleuthing runs in both their families! This triology is fast-paced, fun, and captivating; perfect for your sunny, summer days!
Sara Shepard’s series Pretty Little Liars takes chick-lit to the next level! Four high school friends drift apart following the disappearance of their ring leader and infamous queen bee, Ali. A year after her disappearance, they are brought back together after they start receiving threatening messages by someone they only know as A. These books are wickedly delicious and so fast paced! The twists and turns will leave you feeling like YOU could possibly be A! If you are looking for a good thriller, look no further than Pretty Little Liars (but do yourself a favor and stick with the original 8. The rest of the books that came out after the TV show became popular are greedy, money seeking, garbage.)
So I read this book around Valentine’s Day because I was thirsty for a sappy, romantic contemporary but luckily this is a trilogy and I plan on reading the other two this summer WHICH I think is another perfect time to read sappy, romantic contemporaries. Plus the film adaptation to this book comes out on netflix in August so summer is the perfect time to get caught up in preparation for the movie! You will fall in love with not only the writing style of Jenny Han but also on the cleverly written character of Lara Jean. She is witty and sarcastic and just a breath of fresh air!
A Short History of the Girl Next Door is another great contemporary novel to kick off your summer! But be warned, if you are a crier like me, make sure you have a box of tissues or two next to you while you read! This is such a heartbreakingly real story that will touch your heart and warm your spirit!
Hope you enjoyed this list and make sure you drop in the comments what books are on your summer reading list!
